Happy New Moon in Scorpio! We are officially entering winter here in the Northern Hemisphere and transitioning into more internal and introspective times. This Scorpio New Moon kicks off a special time of year. In the Gaelic tradition this New Moon is celebrated in a festival called Samhain, or summer’s end, that marks the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter.

This New Moon also happens to be falling close to two other celebrated holidays on October 31; Halloween, aka All Hallows’ Eve, and Dia de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead in Latin American traditions. It is a time of celebrating the cycle of death and rebirth through both seasonal changes and paying respects to our ancestors. We honor the lives, struggles, and blessings of those before us, and give thanks for how they helped pave the way for us to live in our present moment.

The veil between the seen and unseen worlds is said to be thin during Scorpio Season and we are feeling extra impact with 4 planets currently in this transformative sign. Scorpio in itself represents our connection to our ancestors and the wounds and karma we’ve inherited. Scorpio asks us to penetrate deep into our soul, heal unresolved trauma, and find our way back to wholeness; more empowered, honest, and inspired than before.

Scorpio asks us to look at our baggage and the ugliness that we attempt to hide from ourself and others. Anything you’ve been trying to keep hidden will likely surface during this New Moon to be dealt with. Personally and collectively this means behavior that’s abusive, dishonest, manipulative, jealous, greedy, just to name a few, will increase in intensity, get exposed, and hopefully find their way to the light through the transformative powers of Scorpio. We have the potential to step out of dysfunctional relationships and situations, and take back our power.

This New Moon has another strong energetic signature, and that’s Uranus. This New Moon is exactly opposite Uranus in Taurus and brings unpredictable, volatile, and groundbreaking energy with it. The Shadow and Light side of this dynamic opposition will create change. You may be dealing with situations outside of your control, but what you can control is your response to it. How we respond to circumstances gives us the power of choice.

We may be presented with some new information and needing to make some major life decisions. We may be experiencing loss in relationships or work that forces us to look at the trajectory of our life. We may feel inspired and energized to create change and embark on a new chapter, using the strength and fuel of these planets to breakthrough old limitations and empower ourself forward!

Whatever path you’re taking, Scorpio asks us to do everything with honesty and integrity. Selfish, ulterior motives and manipulative behaviors continue the cycle of karma. You get to choose to respond to what you’re presented with now, and that alone is empowering. So choose wisely. We also get to harness this New Moon energy and seed our intentions for what we want to create for our future.

The themes of Scorpio are around creating healthy boundaries, healthy intimacy and sexual relationships, discovering our own value and what you value, and working through finances and resources to help develop a solid foundation; though it might not feel like you have any foundation at all at the moment. Scorpio reminds us of the mystery of life. And sometimes when we come face to face with the unknown, we feel uncomfortable, ungrounded, insecure. Even if we are participating in something that inspires and excites us, we may still have all these feelings.

Uranus is electrifying and pushes that sense of instability to another level. We are being asked to use our internal resources as a point of stability. Breathing exercises, movement, meditation, affirmations, are some examples of what can help you stay grounded. Only you know what practices help ground you, and now’s a good time to create habits that support you.

Also keep in mind that Mercury is in Scorpio and stationing retrograde right now. Oh, did I forget to mention that? Well, all this energy of change, of seeding our intentions, may hit some obstacles on their way to manifestation. Go with the flow as much as you can now, because fighting against the current will likely cause more suffering, especially with Mercury retrograde coming up. Try not to be too impulsive, and create boundaries for yourself if you feel your values aren’t being respected. We may need to take a much needed break from people or situations that have been stifling us. Stay present and be sure that the break is coming from a place of integrity, and not from an overwhelming need to rebel.

Mercury and Venus are also conjunct in Scorpio and we are wanting to talk about all things related to sex, intimacy and resources. However, with Mercury retrograde, try not to come to any definite conclusions today. Have conversations, write in your journal, dive deep into whatever process is arising now. pay attention to the potential for manipulative behaviors and sharp communication. Scorpio reminds us of our vulnerabilities how and we like to hide them from others at all costs through defensiveness and breaks in trust. If you can feel safe in your relationships, today you may be able to open up a discussion about what’s needs to deepen your connection.

Another strong energy at play is Mars in Libra, Squaring Saturn and Mars Inconjunct Neptune. Both these combinations can add to this feeling of inertia. The quality of this Scorpio New Moon might be somewhat of a push and pull energy. One moment we are expanding. The next contracting. On the one hand, Saturn tames and directs Mars’s impulsive yet motivated energy which can create deep focus and productivity. On the other hand, and more likely with a Square, Saturn limits and delays Mars’s actions, creating frustration, passive aggressiveness, and melancholy, likely in areas of relationships and work. Saturn is asking you to slow down because you’re missing some important details.

The Mars/Neptune combo may be creating more lethargy and unclear thinking, and even health issues could be acting up. It’s difficult to discern what planetary dynamics are creating what now, but generally Uranus contacts create stress which can cause Neptunian like symptoms such as fatigue, lack of clarity, and increased sensitivity. Pay attention and see what needs to be addressed. It may seem counterproductive, but sometimes much more can be accomplished when you slow down.
