XIX. The Sun

The journey from the Devil to The World, we learn about the Law of Detachment and the challenges that arise from our need to control.

The Sun is the XIX key of the Major Arcana, the Universal light and the source of energy for all life on Earth. The Sun teaches the Fool how she can realize the divine spirit within. The sun's energy manifests as light and heat — with light as straight rays, and heat depicted as curved rays. The ray of light in her chest represents the purification that takes place through a kundalini awakening as the body becomes a vessel for the divine light within. She lays naked, her hair flowing freely to her pelvis, purifying her spirit in the sun's healing light like a snake — symbolic of the kundalini energy that is said to rest "coiled like a serpent" at the base of the spine.

My inner Sun shines bright, surrounding me with light.
I am full of vitality.

XIX. The Sun

The Sun is the Universal light that shines down on us. The source of energy for all life on Earth, which connects us all. The Light in me recognizes the Light within you. The Sun is a source of energetic nutrience. You’re being asked to take a break, refuel and recharge. Just as the snake needs the Suns’ energy to maintain equilibrium, we too take in energy and shed what no longer serves us. It’s possible you are at point of renewal in your life: self-image, thinking, career, and relationships. You’re taking a closer look at yourself, well-being and taking steps on how to incorporate healthier habits into your day-to-day and long-term routines (healthier, by your own standards). Some of you might even be considering taking steps in bettering your mental health (stress reduction, meditation, etc); as well as shedding the skin of older perceptions and images of yourself that no longer serve you.

The Kundalini life force (rests like a coiled serpent at the base of the spine) also awakens when we energetically feed it. When you are drawn to the Sun, you are being asked to listen to what your spirit and body needs. Have you taken time to nurture yourself and tend your Spiritual garden (resources). If you have been feeling disconnected, this is an opportunity to connect with close friends and community. Give yourself a reason to get back into nature, and fuel your spiritual side.
