XVIII. The Moon
The journey from the Devil to The World, we learn about the Law of Detachment and the challenges that arise from our need to control.
The Moon is the 17th key of the Major Arcana. If the Fool is the beginning of the Journey, and the Hermit is the peak of manifestation, then the Moon is the Path of Unfoldment." This path begins in the deep waters of the subconscious mind, where a thought emerges from the depths of the creative unconscious. There, the seed of thought and manifestation first breaks through to the material world. The Moon is a reflection of the Sun, and in alchemy, their marriage is the ultimate collapse of duality. The crescent moon symbolizes an eclipse, which is yet another alchemical symbol for the union of opposite masculine and feminine forces. Esoteric traditions purport that this merging of polar energy channels occurs where kundalini energy flows, which is represented by the flowing of energy up the road towards through the mountains, and the awakening individual, or 'kundalite,' experiences fleeting states of unity consciousness or oneness with the Universe.
I always follow where inspiration leads.
I am one with the creative flow of life.
I tap into source for my creation.
I see in my mind a clear picture of myself having accomplished my own true goal.
There is a natural rhythm and cycle in ever evolution, and every creation.
“Everything flows, out and in; everything has its tides; all things rise and fall; the pendulum swing manifests in everything; the measure of the swing to the right is the measure of the swing to the left; rhythm compensates.”
We see rhythms all around us in nature. We see it in the seasons and the different stages of natural development. The Moon represents the Law of Rhythm; the Law ruling over the natural cycles of life. We can clearly see how the moon represents the Law of Rhythm with her lunar phases: waxing and waning, evolving and diminishing energies. She has the power over the cycle of the tides, and our own emotional waters. The moon also represents the path of unfoldment. The path of unfoldment begins in the deep waters of our subconscious mind; where our dreams and thoughts flow. Once emerged, the seed of thought & manifestation, breaks through to the material world. What once swam in the waters and depth of the creative unconsciousness, emerges as intention.
We find ourselves walking, on this path of unfolding. This is when we are being guided to evolve and “level up”. Balancing our Two Minds: Subconscious and Conscious. The path forward is winding, with phases of supported energy and restrictive critical feedback (waxing and waning energies). This rhythm and cycle teach us to listen to move forward with balanced creative inspiration, Higher Intuition, pragmatic action, and critical feedback, leading to our development and refinement within the material world.
The Moon is also related to Prakriti (The High Priestess and the Universal Collective Unconscious). The term Prakriti is derived from the Sanskrit pra, meaning “beginning,” and kriti, meaning “creation.” In Kundalini yoga, one aim of the practitioner is to awaken prakriti ( our inner power centers and make them accessible) to achieve balance and awaken one's primal power and balance into a natural state of being.
Looking at the Moon card, this is symbolized by the path we walk between two animals (a wolf and dog); they are two of the same animal, yet different by conditioning.
The Moon can often symbolize the dream time, as well as confusion. Do you find yourself on a path forward, however, confused by the peaks and valleys of success? You are being asked to remain aligned on the path, not straying too far to the right (dog - critical thinking) or left (wolf - wild ambition). Success and progress is not a straight line, and you are being asked to refine and reflect in the rhythm of your Journey. To find your purpose, you’re asked to find your own energetic rhythm & cycle. Work with your unique energetic signature and rhythm. Leverage the supportive and inspiring energies - as they arise, and rest and reflect during times of energetic waning.
