Happy Virgo New Moon!

We’ve moved past the Eclipse. Past Mercury Retrograde. Past Leo season - and now we’ve entered the Season of Virgo. The last 3 months have been life changing for many. Unstable and unpredictable as we’ve been reorganizing both our inner and outer landscapes. Learning to navigate grief, loss, change, and newness. Now we enter into Virgo where we try to organize and make sense of it all.

Virgo is the ultimate Sacred Mother. The Goddess of Purity and Innocence. The Virgin. Think of Mother Theresa. She’s selfless, caring, compassionate, and endlessly working towards the betterment of humankind and serving those less fortunate than herself. In this way, Virgo is associated with work, service, health, purification, organization, and detail oriented, analytical thinking. These are the qualities we want to embody during this time. Virgo pushes us to see what’s not working and course correct, often finding more efficient and compassionate ways of doing things.

Learning to say “No” is a lesson for Virgo. Coming from the Pisces lack of boundaries, Virgo is now practicing boundaries and self-care. During this Virgo season we can take a look at the ways in which we give too much of ourself and are left feeling drained and under appreciated.

Of course we can’t speak of Virgo without acknowledging its dark side as well. Within the theme of purification and organization, Virgo has a tendency to seek out perfection, which is of course unattainable. But try telling that someone with strong Virgo in their chart. To help understand this we look Virgo’s polarity, which is Pisces. Virgo brings a send of order to the ineffable chaos of Pisces. Virgo attempts to ground and manifest the perfection of the Piscean oneness and beauty. But the nature of Pisces is elusive and intangible, thus impossible to live up to its unrealistic ideals and expectations. When looking for what’s not working and trying to make it work in some idea of “perfection” that Virgo has in mind, an unrelenting critic rears its ugly head. This creates stress and conflict internally for the Virgo, and also for those around them who may feel that they can never do anything “right.” We’ve all been there, or have been around someone like this.

The stress of this constant tension to manifest perfection can leave one feeling unworthy and guilt ridden as they respond to any of their behavior or facet of their being which they view as imperfect. This stress is often internalized and can create health issues when left unchecked. Suffering through physical issues is often connected to those with strong Virgo in their chart. And now that we have 5 planets, Moon, Sun, Mercury, Mars, Venus, in Virgo, our health, our work, and the stress of perfection, or imperfection, are major themes for all of us now.

There are several ways to best make use of this energy. One is to go out in Nature. Even though Virgo is ruled by Mercury is heavily focused on mental energy and thoughts, Virgo is an Earth sign. And what better way to experience perfection than to connect with the beauty and perfection of Nature. When you think of Virgo in Nature, think of fractals, spirals, the intricacy and sacred geometry of plants and water molecules, colors, sounds, and the expansiveness of the universe. All that is beyond our comprehension, yet makes us feel connected, interconnected, to the oneness that is Nature, that is Pisces. Here we can appreciate all the imperfections and see just how perfect it all is. Here we can relax and reconnect to ourself in a new and more accepting way.

Apply this thinking to how you approach and respond to yourself and to others when mistakes are made and the illusion of “imperfection” arises. Responding critically creates more tension, which increases stress, which increases illness. Instead find healthy solutions to mistakes or “imperfections.” Focus on what you can change. Focus on gentle and compassionate communication with yourself and others. Focus on creating healthy daily habits which include stress reducing tools such as meditation, light exercise, healthy eating, alone time, and learning to say “No.”

Learning to say “No” is a lesson for Virgo. Coming from the Pisces lack of boundaries, Virgo is now practicing boundaries and self-care. During this Virgo season we can take a look at the ways in which we give too much of ourself and are left feeling drained and under appreciated. As these places get highlighted, it gives us the opportunity to reorganize situations to make them work for us, so we aren’t just working for others success or satisfaction. We can get so much done during this time and by letting go of toxic and unproductive situations and create more ease, flow, efficiency and acknowledgment.

As we seek out stability through the grounded presence of Virgo, we are simultaneously feeling the electric influence of Uranus Trine the New Moon, the mental musings of Mercury, the frustrations and motivation of Mars, and the desire for beauty and harmony from Venus - all of which are conjunct the Virgo New Moon. Mars and Uranus are the closest by degree in connection to this New Moon and it’s likely that any anger or frustrations we’ve suppressed will arise now. The Trine from Uranus gives us the ability to have new awakenings and find solutions to unaddressed and challenging issues. Our need for independence and acknowledgement will fuel us to forge a new path to self love. There may be a collective energy that’s guiding us back to more ethical, compassionate and selfless behavior while addressing selfish guilt inducing behavior.

As we spend the next 3-4 weeks with a Virgo heavy chart, it’s important to not only see the details of our situation and life, but to take a step back and reflect on the bigger picture so that we don’t lose perspective. Don’t forget to take time to admire the little details, offer a kind word of appreciation to yourself and someone else, enjoy the journey to creating more order in your life.
